President Bola Tinubu has stated that in order for Nigeria and Africa to make genuine progress and development, democracy needs to be cultivated and maintained.
According to Mr. Dele Alake, who serves as a Special Adviser to the President on Special Duties, Communications, and Strategy, the President made this statement in Abuja, when he was meeting with leaders of the Senate.
Tinubu was paid a visit by a delegation that was led by the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio. The purpose of the trip was to congratulate Tinubu on his appointment as Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government.
“It is essential that democracy continue. To move forward, we are going to require it. According to him, “we have to send the right signal to the rest of the world, particularly to the rest of the world outside of Africa, that we mean business.”
The President stated that his election to chair the body of the 16 heads of government in West Africa came as a surprise and was unanimous. He also stated that it was a call to service that requires more effort and dedication.
Tinubu stated that his election, which was a vote of confidence given to him by other leaders in the region, was a “additional responsibility we must bear for the good of Africa.”
“The credit means more work to be done, and it’s because of encouragement like this from you and other channels.”
Tinubu gave his word that he would fulfil his responsibilities to the Nigerian people despite the difficulties that are currently being faced.
Earlier, Akpabio stated that the fact that he was elected President of the regional body during his very first meeting with the organisation was evidence of the high regard that his fellow members held him in.
“We came to offer our congratulations on the laurel that you brought back with you to your home.
“On the very first day that you were present in the ECOWAS chambers, your Brother-Presidents unanimously voted for you to lead them.
“The rebirth of hope that you gave to the Nigerian people was symbolised by your emergence.”
According to Akpabio, the Senate as well as the rest of the National Assembly will continue to back the President in his efforts to fulfil the mandate he was elected to fulfil and realise his vision for a more prosperous Nigeria.(NAN)
