Nigeria’s senior national team, the Super Eagles, will defend their Unity Cup title against India, Jamaica, and Zimbabwe when the four-nation tournament kicks off this summer in London.
The Nigeria Football Federation confirmed the fixtures on Wednesday, announcing that the 2026 edition of the Unity Cup will take place at The Valley in South London from May 26 to May 30, 2026.
Nigeria, champions of the 2025 edition, will begin their title defence against Zimbabwe in the opening semi-final on May 26. The match will see Super Eagles take on the Warriors in what is expected to be a high-profile African clash.
The encounter also serves as a rematch of the two sides’ recent meetings during the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification series, adding further intensity to the fixture.
On the same day, India will face Jamaica in the second semi-final, with winners of both matches advancing to the final scheduled for May 30. Organisers say the tournament will once again deliver an exciting blend of football, entertainment, and cultural celebration that defined the 2025 edition.
Reacting to the announcement, NFF President Ibrahim Gusau described the tournament as another opportunity for the Super Eagles to showcase their strength.
“As perennial champions, the Super Eagles will look to retain their title again this summer, even as they will not underrate the other participating teams — India, Jamaica, and Zimbabwe. The tournament promises to be explosive, and that is the setting in which the Super Eagles thrive best,” Gusau said.
The Unity Cup comes at a crucial time for Nigeria, as the team continues preparations following their failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The Super Eagles lost out to DR Congo national football team in the African play-offs, marking the second consecutive time Nigeria will miss the global showpiece.
However, the team recorded a positive outing at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, where they finished third to secure a bronze medal and end the tournament among Africa’s top teams.
With pride and momentum at stake, the Super Eagles will now aim to retain the Unity Cup and restore confidence ahead of future international competitions.
