The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has condemned the kidnapping of His Eminence Samuel Kanu, Prelate of the Methodist Church of Nigeria.
Kanu was abducted along with the Methodist Bishop of Owerri, Rev. Dennis Mark, and the Prelate’s Chaplain.
On Sunday, the clerics were driven along the Enugu-Port Harcourt expressway in Abia State’s Umunneochi Local Government Area.

President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Rev. Samson Ayokunle, urged President Muhammadu Buhari to order security agencies to rescue them.
The religious leader also wants an end to the kidnappings of Nigerian clerics and others.
In a statement issued on Monday, spokesman Bayo Oladeji questioned how the attackers were able to strike without being repelled.
According to Oladeji, ten clerics were kidnapped in 2022 alone, with none of them being rescued by security forces.
“Unfortunately, the victims were killed by their captors in two instances! This is no longer a country in which one can be proud.
“No reasonable government can continue to leave its citizens in such a precarious situation.” This is a bad situation for our country.”
Before leaving office, CAN urged the Buhari administration to rehabilitate its image of widespread insecurity by bringing sanity to the situation.

“Because they are not responsible for whatever reasons that made them criminals,” the body pleaded with the perpetrators to release the captives unharmed.
The statement urged Christians and other well-intentioned Nigerians to pray for all citizens held captive by kidnappers.
