A call has gone to the Federal Government to, as a matter of necessity; approve the unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu leader of the proscribed indigenous people of Biafra (IPOB)so as to boost development and end criminality in the South East in fulfillment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s promised commitment to a free society.

The group under the aegis of Umuigbo United Assembly made the call during the inauguration and unveiling of Umuigbo United Assembly Lagos State Chapter,held on Saturday,1st of June,2024 at ICAN Event Center,Amuwo Odofin,Lagos.

The National President of Umuigbo United Assembly, Ambassador Raph NwaDavid, has stated that the continuous detention of the leader of lPOB will stop the killings of innocent lives that is taking place in the southern part of the east, noting that some powerful Ndigbos are behind the continuous detention of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, in custody by the Federal Government.

 

Evangelist NwaDavid noted that there was need for Ndigbo to be united and speak with one voice to pursue common purpose and it was the disunity that has made Mazi Kanu to be languishing in custody and Ndigbo had been unable to do anything for his release after several years, while appealing to the President to quickly come to the rescue of the South East region so that peace and unity of the nation will continue.

” We the members of the Umuigbo United Assembly, wish to appeal to Mr President to release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu unconditionally from detention. The lssue of insecurity is giving the citizens sleepness night and l know Mr President to be a freedom fighter where he and other individuals fought for the freedom of civilian rule during the regime of General Sanni Abacha as most of them were killed for democracy to take place ”

 

“On behalf of the Assembly,Mr President, for the love he has for this country to release Nnamdi Kanu unconditionally so that peace and unity of the nation will continue and also to tackle all security problems nationwide especially in the north east and south east region “.he said

Ambassador NwaDavid went further to state that the purpose of forming Umuigbo United Assembly is for the welfare of Ndigbo, stating that the Assembly is formed to bring peace, unity, love and understanding among the lgbos and Nigerians in general

He posited that Umuigbo United Assembly is a revelation from God, which came into limelight on November 13,2013, noting that God gave him the vision to unite the lgbos together as the group is spread across the States of Nigeria and beyond other countries in the World, like Germany,USA,France and London, while advising the traditional rulers and other Igbo leaders to work to restore Igbo language from going into extinction because the language is dying gradually to the extent that in few years time, Igbo children will no longer speak the language.

Speaking on the recent attack by the military officers in Abia state,Hon Mayor John Ikechukwu Echefu, called on the Federal government to investigate on the matter so as to know the root cause of the crisis.

He said,”the federal government should not make innocent citizens victims of the act of those criminals, because we have seen in the north where Boko Haram is killing soldiers everyday,yet they did not invade the community of the citizens. Yes the lgbo nation is totally against this act of criminality, and we are asking the lgbos in Abia state not to relent in giving out vital information to the security agencies so as to fish out this daredevils,but we are asking the president not to allow what happened in Delta state to happen in Abia state by allowing the military to aveng what the criminals did to the citizens.”

The former House of Assembly Candidate under labour party in the last general election urge the lgbos to come together with one focus and voice so as to secure the lgbo nation which is, common interests to protect the lgbo man.

He opined that in every electoral violence in the country, the lgbo man is a victim and must come together to put an end to it.

Earlier, the newly inaugurated chairman,Elder Marcs Anyanwu expressed confidence that Umuigbo United Assembly has come to alleviate the suffering of the lgbos by bringing them together as one entity, stating that the essence of the Assembly is to be their brother’s keeper and to unite all lgbos in Nigeria and in diaspora.

Elder Anyanwu noted that all other lgbo socio cultural group falls under the umbrella of Umuigbo United Assembly whose aim is to stop the hate, discrimination among the lgbos and ensure that lgbos all over the nation and those in diaspora speaks with one voice, vision and focus.

He thanked the members the Lagos State chapter and its executives for their support and promised to carry every members along for the progress of Ndigbo in Lagos State, while expressing satisfaction with the inauguration and hope that the group will turn things around for the welfare of Ndigbo in the state.

” Today marks another memorable day in lgbo nation, where lgbos residing in Lagos can run to and seek refuge, where we speak with one voice both in mourning, crying and celebration. Umuigbo United Assembly is inaugurated and unveiled today,this now empower us to operate as an organization and chapter in Lagos state, where we can unite all our brothers and sisters,no matter their various affiliations in various Igbo socio cultural group to speak in unity, love and understanding, it was the disunity of lgbos that led the vision from God for the formation of Umuigbo United Assembly, which has now spread like wildfire among the Igbo as a meeting point for Ndigbo to speak with one voice.”He said

While urging the federal government to release Mazi Kanu unconditionally as he is being held for political reasons, noting that if he is released today, normalcy will be restored back in the South East region.

The event was attended by prominent Igbo men and women, captains of industry, Igbo leaders, traditional rulers including the first president of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos State, Chief John Uche, Ogbuehi Raph Njirika, Hon Uchenna Aziekwe, Lady Mrs Lucy Ikeh, Chief Mrs. Nelly Okafor,Hon Mayor John Ikechukwu Echefu,among others.

The highpoint of the event was the unveiling of the members and the executives of the union led by Elder M.C Anyanwu, who thanked the National President and and National Publicity Secretary, Dr Ugochukwu Nwajiofor, for their support and reposing confidence in the Umuigbo United Assembly, Lagos State.

Presentation of award were given to some distinguished personalities who have contributed immensely to the growth of lgbo nation, they include;HRM Nduchekwa Chukwukaike, Chief Mrs Violet Obiora,Elder Kingsley lgwe, Chief Emeka Ossai,Hon George Olawande, Chief Metche Nnadiekwe, Kenneth lfeanyi Nwaokocha,Dr Osondu Martin lbegbu,Eze Monday Lawrence Obijiogwu and Rt Hon Joe Okey  Onuakalusi, member representing Oshodi/lsolo at the National Assembly.
