Planned Protests:Eze Ndigbo Surulere Caution Ndigbo,Urge Them To Shun Protest

The Eze Ndigbo of Surulere, Lagos State Eze Dr Edwin Obi has cautioned Igbo people in Surulere local government area and the state in general not to participate the planned nationwide protests schedule for August 1 to August 10.

Speaking in an interview with lnvestigator News in his palace yesterday 29th July,2024, he appealed to all lgbos to back out in the planned protest as the lgbos would be the people that will suffer the most.

Eze Obi went further to state that the lgbo people have been marginalized for a long time in Nigeria and they have been crying out loud about the situation and no one is listening, therefore l urged Igbo people living in Surulere and the entire lgbo race not to join the protest because it is not in their interest, rather they will target the properties of our people to loot and destroy.

“The protest will not change anything for the Igbo people; so why should they join other people to protest when they are already suffering the economic hardship in the country,l want to appeal to all lgbos in Surulere and the nation at large to backout,let us remain who we are because we are not destroyers but builders.”he stated

While citing the ugly experience in the previous 2020 EndSars protest that led to avoidable deaths and loss of properties,he noted that the lgbos in Surulere is against any faceless protest and would not associate themselves to it, appealing to the organizers to take their demands to the relevant authority and have a dialogue that will be beneficial to the citizenry.

Eze Obi who is the Secretary Supreme Council of Ndieze Lagos state acknowledge the harsh economic being faced in the country but opined that protest is not the way forward but peaceful dialogue.
He said “We must prioritize our safety and well being and avoid any action that may be perceived as confrontation or provocation, for this reason oting that Ndigbo in Surulere will not participate or support any protest that may compromise the safety and security of lgbo residents in Surulere ” he submitted.

The Eze Ndigbo therefore call on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the State Governors to look critically into the demands of the protesters ,while commending the president assenting to the bill that created the South East Development Commission, adding that the agency will bring about development in the South East zone.

Eze Dr Edwin Obi expressed sorrow over the passing of Chief Emmanuel Chukwuemeka Iwuanyanwu (Ahaejiagamba Ndi Igbo.) and Senator lfeanyi Ubah, stating that their death was a huge loss to the lgbo race.

According to him, Iwuanyanwu’s life was marked by numerous accomplishments in business, politics, media sports, and community leadership, noting that as President General Ohaneze Ndigbo,he was a true defender of his people working tirelessly to the benefit of the lgbo race.

” We received the news with pain in our hearts but we cannot question God because God knows the end from the beginning, lwuanyanwu is known for his patriotism and defense of his people, the lgbo race would certainly miss him for the efforts put in place by him to ensure that lgbos speaks with one voice.

In the same vein,he commiserate with the family of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah who died in London, noting that lgbo nation has lost a rare gem in the person of Senator Ubah who is describe as father to the less privileged, adding that the people of Anambra and South East in general would greatly miss him

“On behalf of my family, I extend my condolences to the families of this great leadrs and sons of lgbo nation, South East and the entire Ndigbo, praying that God should give us the fortitude to bear this loss,may their soul rest in peace. Amen,” he stated.
