The Executive Chairman of Oto-Awori Local Council Development Area, Hon. Kareem Azeez Abiodun, has visited the scene of a devastating fire incident along Badagry Expressway, Ogbetedo, where three drivers and their assistants lost their lives, and several shops and businesses were destroyed at about 3am today.

Investigator news reports that the fire, sparked by a collision involving fuel and diesel-laden trucks, has raised concerns about road safety and the need for drivers to exercise caution .

Hon. Kareem expressed condolences to the families of the victims and those affected, saying “We’re deeply saddened by this tragic incident”.

 

Eyewitnesses reported that the collision occurred when three trailer drivers, allegedly driving recklessly, crashed into each other, sparking a massive fire.

The impact sparked a massive fire that engulfed the trucks and nearby shops.

Investigator news gathered that the three drivers, who were behind the wheel of the trailers, lost their lives in the inferno.

Hon. Abiodun also urged trailer drivers to be more careful on the highways. “One mistake can claim lives and destroy livelihoods. Please be more careful,” he appealed.

The Chairman also commended the fire service’s prompt response and urged trailer drivers to be more careful on the highways.

Investigator news also reports that the chairman’s visit was a gesture of solidarity with the affected community, as they grapple with the aftermath of the incident.

The LCDA chairman’s expression of sympathy brings some comfort to the grieving residents, amidst the tragic loss of lives and properties.

Following his visit to the scene of the devastating fire incident along Badagry Expressway, Ogbetedo, Oto-Awori, Hon. Kareem Azeez Abiodun, Executive Chairman of Oto-Awori LCDA has announced plans to establish a committee to assess the damage and identify residents who lost valuable properties and businesses in the area.

According to him, the committee will focus on analyzing the impact of the fire on local businesses and residents, with a view to providing compensation. This move demonstrates Hon. Kareem’s commitment to helping the community recover from the tragedy.

During a sympathetic visit to HRM, Oba Josiah Ilemobade Aina, Oloto of Oto-Awori Kingdom, Hon. Kareem revealed his intention to set up the committee. Oloto praised Hon. Abiodun for his prompt visit to the scene, describing it as a demonstration of his commitment to the community.

“We appreciate your swift response to the incident,” Oba Aina said. “It shows you care about our people and their well-being.”

Hon. Kareem also praised and commended the swift response of the fire service teams from Ojo, Badagry, and Satellite town, which helped mitigate the devastation and distress caused by the fire.

He reiterated his administration’s commitment to ensuring that those affected by the fire receive fair compensation as his administration aim is to provide relief to residents who suffered losses in the fire and the committee’s analysis will be crucial in determining the extent of compensation needed.
