The Oto-Awori Local Council Development Area is reviewing its outdated bye-laws on Internally Generated Revenue to boost local development.
Oto Awori LCDA Chairman, Hon. Kareem Azeez Abiodun, appealed for stakeholder support, citing the need for updated regulations to optimize revenue generation.
Hon. Abiodun, made the appeal during a public hearing on the review of existing bye-laws on general rates and levies.
He stated, “Aside from federal allocations and State support, we are calling on all stakeholders to cooperate and support us in this direction, as these items are outdated and don’t correspond with reality when it comes to optimizing revenue generation and driving progress in our local community.”
Abiodun explained that the LCDA has procured POS machines for all area offices and plans to rebrand revenue staff, introducing a reward mechanism for those who excel in revenue generation.
He also urged cattle rearers to relocate from roads and highways, warning that environmental sanctions in this aspect will be turned into revenue-generation.

The council boss warned that anyone found guilty of creating nuisances on roads, especially disposing of refuse, will face penalties.
“Residents are advised to pay levies and rates directly into council accounts and a task force will be established to check revenue collection flaws.”he submitted
The Leader of the House, Hon. Audu Sulaimon, emphasized the importance of stakeholder participation in the review process, saying, “The objective of this is to provide an open and inclusive platform for all to present their memorandum, views, comments, recommendations and contributions on the current bye-laws.
According to him,submissions received will serve as a critical guide in the legislative review and amendment process with a view to improving efficiency, fairness and compliance in the administration and collection of generated revenue, levies and rates in Oto-Awori LCDA.”
Investigator news reports that the public hearing was attended by various stakeholders, including CDC Exco and CSAs, artisans, National Youth Council of Nigeria, Oto-Awori LCDA chapter, royal fathers and religious leaders. They provided inputs and clarifications to inform the update process.
The review of the bye-laws is expected to enhance the LCDA’s revenue generation capabilities, improve infrastructure and provide better services to residents
