Orji Kalu to FG: ASUU strikers, Stop playing with future of youths

Orji Uzor Kalu, the Chief Whip of the Nigerian Senate, has urged the Federal Government to take the immediate steps required to put an end to the protracted strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, or ASUU.

The lawmaker warned that the lecturers’ ongoing strikes might result in graduates with low quality in a statement he signed on Wednesday.

He urged both parties to stop tampering with the future of young Nigerians who have been staying at home for more than five months.

“Continual strikes have far-reaching implications for national development,” the statement reads. They interfere with the academic calendar, promote brain drain, and are a major factor in the low quality of graduates in the nation.

In the best interests of our students, their parents, the educational system, and the nation, the federal government must act quickly to open realistic negotiations with ASUU in order to put an end to the strike and carry out the agreements that have already been reached.

“We need to stop tampering with the future of our children.”

Recall that on February 14, ASUU closed all public universities in a show of force against the FG’s failure to carry out agreements that the two parties had previously signed.
