In a bid to alleviate the economic hardship being faced by individuals,the Ohaneze Ndigbo Socio Cultural group, Amuwo Odofin Lagos Chapter has decided to empowered over 100 of its members with POS machines, grinding machines, gas cookers, food items, cooking utensils, and cash donation of N100,000 to 20 Women so as to help them financially in their various businesses.

The event attracted the likes of Hon Folorunsho Ola Western,Hon Maureen Achara,Hon George Adegeye Olawande, MHR, Amuwo Odofin Federal Constituency (represented by his constituency manager, Hon. Robert Obasi);ACP Eburaja Nwachukwu of Area E Command, Festac; Eze Augustine Ojukwu Ezendigbo, Amuwo-odofin; and Eze Chukwuakalikamadu. Emmanuel Ezendigbo Oriade, Princess Uju Ibeh Ezenwanyi, Eze Dr. Anthony Chigbo Elui, Chief Sunday Ossai, president of Ohaneze Ndigbo Lagos,Chief Mrs. Violet Obiora,the representatives of May HillTop International School; Hon. Stella Foluke Safilo and Hon.Bruaimoh Valentine.
In his welcome address,the Chairman of Ohaneze Ndigbo Amuwo-odofin, High Chief Chikwado Laurence Ezeunara, stated that the essence of the event was to celebrate and recognize personalities of unquestionable characters who have made their mark and impact as far as Ohaneze Ndigbo Amuwo Odofin and Lagos in general is concerned.
He went further to state that the award event was held last in 2017,and this year the organization decided to recognize multiple recipients,empower its members and assist the widows,less privileged and youths in Amuwo Odofin so that they can make exploit in their respective status of life.
High Chief Ezeunara noted that in the last two years of his administration,he has been able to achieved the following which include establishment of lgboezue cultural institution,free lgbo language summer classes for the children of ages 6-8 in conjunction with his Royal highness Eze Ojukwu Sunday Augustine (Eze Udo ll),cash gift of one million, three hundred and fifty thousand naira to victims of armed robbery attack in Abule Ado and constitutions, inauguration of various committees and registration of the organization officially with Amuwo Odofin Local government administration.

“The empowerment and award presentation was borne from the heart to worthily recognize our former, present and incoming responsible leaders who are bent at fostering peace, unity and love amongst Ndigbo. These individuals had and are still contributing immensely without reservations to the progress of Ohaneze Ndigbo in Amuwo Odofin LGA and beyond and deserves every height of appreciation in all spheres.
He went further to appreciate the chairman of the award and empowerment committee, Evangelist Ebele Thompson Ojiako,the Secretary Comrade S.Azubuike, Ambassador Ikenna Nwaeze(Assistant Secretary),Mrs Oluchi,Mrs Stella and Sir Martins Ugonma, Chief Mrs Hope Eze,Nze Chibuzor Umuodo,who is the director for culture,Amuwo Odofin and the entire members of the award committee for their unalloyed support and contributions towards the success of the program.
The Chairman of the event,Chief Emmanuel Otunoye used the occasion to urge lgbo stakeholders to always preach peace and unity n their domain as togetherness and love will bring about peace and tranquility in the South East region.
Speaking to newsmen,the Publicity Secretary of Ohaneze Ndigbo Lagos State, Mrs. Violet Uchenna Obiora, preached unity, love, and understanding amongst the Igbo,ststing that the act of recognizing the less privileged is a selfless service to society.
The former woman leader went further to acknowledge Ohaneze Ndigbo Amuwo Odofin for remembering the less privileged and women among them, while commending Chief Ezeunara for actualizing this great feats.
Also,the LGA Woman leader, Chief Mrs Hope Eze applauded the chairman and the entire Ndigbo in Amuwo Odofin for their support and care towards the women and youths, stating that the empowerment giving to the beneficiaries would go a long way in reducing the economic hardship being faced by many families.
Chief Mrs Hope who is also the leader of of the women cultural group appreciated the women for their support, while urging them to continually pray for the unity and peace of Ndigbo in Amuwo Odofin
Lending his voice,Hon. Folorunsho Ola Western applauded the Ohaneze Ndigbo Amuwo-odofin for recognizing leaders that have touched lives in the society as well as having the initiative to reach out to the less privileged and widows.
He opined that as a Philanthropist who has empowered so many widows and less privileged regardless of their ethnic background, individuals need to understand the importance of giving back to the society, noting that unity has prevailed so far in Amuwo-odofin amongst tribes as established by the President of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Governor of Lagos State, Gov. Babajide Sanwo-olu, and at the local government level, while expressing satisfaction at the honors given to ACP Eburaja Nwachukwu, Area E Commander, and CSP Balogun, the DPO of Festac, in commendation of their good work in ensuring security and safety in Amuwo-odofin.
One of the awardees, the Assistant Commissioner of Police for Area E Command, ACP Eburaja Nwachukwu expressed gratitude over the recognition accorded him by the Ohaneze Ndigbo Amuwo-odofin as well as the initiative to empower members.
He stated that since his assumption into office as the police head in Festac, there has not been any breach constituted by tribes because he has appealed to Ndigbos to maintain peaceful coexistence with other tribes in Festac, while commending Ndigbo for being very enterprising, hardworking, and peaceful.
While answering questions from newsmen, High Chief Ezeunara stated that empowerment is about setting up a business venture for an individual
“The idea of giving palliatives to people and calling it empowerment is a wrong concept, for they are exhaustible items.Ohaneze Amuwo-odofin chapter has achieved a vision by empowering members with grinding machines, POS machines, cookers, utensils, and cash worth N100,000 to 20 persons as start-up capital”
“The idea is to empower these women so that they will be able to start small scale businesses, in view of current economic realities.”
“While some got POS Machines,others got grinding machines, others gas cooker and I think these will save them a lot in expenses as they learn to feed themselves and their communities.”he submitted.
Beneficiaries who were empowered with brand new POS machines and grinding machines respectively, were drawn from the different ward in Amuwo Odofin local governments.
Speaking to lnvestigator news,Mrs Veronica Okonkwo who received the sum of N100,000.thanked the organization, praying that God almighty will replenish their purse.
Also, Mrs Ngozi Nwankwo,a recipient of grinding machine stated that she would use the equipment judiciously to fend for her family
Investigator news gathered that May Hill Top International School also gave out food palliatives to members of Ohaneze Ndigbo Amuwo Odofin.
A representative of Mrs May Adubasin,the Proprietress,Mr Mensah commended the effort of High Chief Chikwado for putting together a gathering to empower widows, the less privileged, and the youths.
” The exercise is in line with the school’s vision to reach out and assist the less privileged in the society as they have just done,so my principal decided to partner with Ohaneze Ndigbo Socio Cultural group in giving and showing love to the less privileged in the society.”he stated.
Highpoint of the event was presentation of awards to distinguished personalities, presentation of gift items and cultural dance by Ohaneze women Amuwo Odofin Chapter.
