The Minister of Women Affairs Hon.lmaam Sulaiman lbrahim has reassured the commitment of the federal ministry of women affairs to advancing policies and initiatives that support neurodiverse individuals,ensuring they have access to quality education, healthcare,and economic opportunities.
In a release signed by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity,Mr Jonathan Eze,the Minister called on all stakeholders,families,caregivers,and the broader society to embrace neurodiversity and create an enabling environment where everyone, regardless of ability,can thrive.
She said,”Today, April 2nd, we join the global community in commemorating World Autism Awareness Day, a day set aside to recognize and promote understanding, acceptance, and support for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).”
This year’s theme, “Advancing Neurodiversity and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),” underscores the critical connection between neurodiversity and global sustainability efforts.”
“It highlights the need for inclusive policies, education, and employment opportunities that empower individuals with autism and other neurodivergent conditions to contribute meaningfully to society.”
“By fostering acceptance and removing barriers, we move closer to achieving the SDGs, particularly those related to quality education (SDG 4), decent work and economic growth (SDG 8), and reduced inequalities (SDG 10).”
“The official color of World Autism Awareness Day is blue, symbolizing calmness, acceptance, and understanding.”
“It serves as a reminder of the need for a more inclusive society where individuals with autism are recognized for their unique strengths and potential.
“The observance of this day was first established by the United Nations in 2007, reinforcing the global commitment to raising awareness and advocating for the rights and well-being of people with autism.”
