The Honourable Minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim,has called for collaboration from the United Nations so as to advance gender equality and women’s empowerment in Nigeria.
She made the appeal when she hosted the UN Women Country Representative,Ms. Beatrice Eyong in her office.
The meeting which was held in the presence of the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Maryam Ismaila Keshinro, Directors of the Ministry, and staff of UN Women, focused on aligning efforts to tackle key challenges facing women and girls.
Investigator news reports that the discussions centered on enhancing women’s access to economic opportunities and resources; preventing and responding to gender-based violence; promoting women’s leadership and participation in governance; and expanding access to clean energy technologies, particularly biogas-powered cooking stoves, to improve health, reduce environmental risks, and create economic opportunities for women.
Speaking during the meeting, Hajiya Sulaiman-Ibrahim emphasized the importance of collaboration in driving impactful change.
She said, “Together with UN Women, we are addressing systemic challenges to ensure women and girls have equal opportunities to thrive. This partnership is critical for creating sustainable and inclusive progress.”she stated.
Responding Ms. Eyong reaffirmed UN Women’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s gender equality agenda, highlighting the organization’s readiness to strengthen cooperation on initiatives that empower women and foster equity.
