Professor Mahmood Yakubu is currently serving as the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), but the Labour Party (LP) has called for his immediate removal from that position.
Additionally, the party demanded the dismissal of the INEC Federal Commissioner who was in charge of the organization’s voter education programme. Festus Okoye.
The Labour Party Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Organisation issued a statement on Thursday, in which it accused the two individuals of leading the commission in the desecration of the 2023 presidential election in Nigeria.
In addition, it was stated that INEC had squandered the funds that had been provided to it by both the government and international bodies in order to carry out the general elections in the country in 2023.
Additionally, the campaign organisation for the Labour Party stated that INEC spent billions of tax payers’ dollars under the guise of deploying the BVAS and other technological innovations for the 2023 elections, but in the end, they manually manipulated the results to force their preferred presidential candidate on Nigerians.

As a result, it demanded that Yakubu and Okoye be fired from their positions immediately and brought to justice for the ‘crimes’ they had committed.

The following is an excerpt from the statement that was released: “The Labour Party Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Organisation has demanded unequivocally, the immediate dismissal from office and prosecution of Prof Yakubu Mahmood, INEC Chairman, and Festus Okoye, INEC Federal Commissioner in charge of voter education following the final reports of the Nigerian Civil Society Situation Room and the International Community regarding the desecration of the presidential election of 25th February, 2023.”
