In a parallel primary election held on Wednesday, Muhammad, the first son of late Nigerian military dictator Gen. Sani Abacha, emerged as the PDP’s governorship candidate in Kano State.
Muhammad Sani Abacha was declared winner after polling 736 votes to defeat his closest rival, Jafar Sani-Bello, who came in second with 710 votes. The election was held at the State party headquarters on Lugard Avenue in Kano.

The returning officer, Amina Garba, declared Mohammad to be the primary winner.

Former Kano governor Kwankwaso is suspended from the PDP by a Kano faction.
While defending the parallel election, the chairman of the electoral committee, Mohammed Jamu, stated that the primary was held legally with validly elected delegates and was overseen by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the police, and the State Security Service.

Yunusa Dangwani, Yusuf Dambatta, Muaz Magaji, Ibrahim Ali-Amin, Sadiq Wali, and Mustapha Getso were among the other candidates who ran in the parallel primary.
