On Friday, Yahaya Bello, the governor of Kogi State, reaffirmed his commitment to a free and fair election on November 11.

As thousands of PDP members from the state’s Ankpa Local Government Area were being formally welcomed, the governor gave the assurance.

The now-former PDP supporters have made the decision to switch allegiance to the APC, which is currently in power in Kogi State, and merge their structures with it.

Governor Bello hinted that the APC in Kogi State is a party that does not discriminate when he promised the new members that they would be treated with kindness and accorded equal privileges to founding party members.

The governor said that the APC was the right party to be a part of as his administration works to rebuild Kogi State while also praising the delegation for their tenacity, commitment, and determination to identify with the party.

Bello praised the chairman of the Ankpa LGA, Hon. Ibrahim Abagwu, for his hard work and praised the former Deputy Speaker, Hon. Rabiu Alfa for his loyalty and dedication.

The governor reaffirmed that the APC doesn’t discriminate on the basis of race, religion, ethnicity, social class, or any other dividing characteristics.

The election on November 11 will be free, fair, and peaceful, and I want to reassure you of that once more.

The absence of violence during the process will be ensured by the government. As anyone attempting to undermine the stability of Kogi State will be dealt with by security personnel, we’ll make sure the citizens of that state cast their ballots.

He mentioned some of the accomplishments of his administration in the Ankpa Local Government and promised that more would be done.

There is room for everyone to benefit from the dividends of good governance, he urged the new members to recruit more of their supporters and encourage others in the grassroots to join the APC.

Hon. Abraham Usman, the delegation’s leader and a steadfast PDP supporter, claimed that they made the decision to join the ruling party and were persuaded by it because they recognised Governor Bello’s political astuteness and leadership abilities, which demonstrate his resolve to always act morally.

He mentioned that the group’s members were senior PDP figures in the Ankpa LGA who were now open to joining the APC.

The new members were welcomed by the party chairman, hon. Abdullahi Bello, before being given to the governor. He noted that they were strong local stakeholders from the Ankpa LGA who had been gathered by party members from the local government, led by hon. Rabiu Alfa, the recently-departed deputy speaker of the state House of Assembly.

According to him, the fresh faces in the party were eager to get involved, contribute, and help the party win the upcoming elections.
