The Executive Chairman of Òdì-Olowo/Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area, Dr. Seyi Jakande, has commended Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, for the decision to reinstate the monthly environmental sanitation exercise across the state.
Jakande made the commendation on Saturday, March 14, while hosting the governor during an official visit to the council area, describing the move as timely and necessary step toward strengthening environmental responsibility and improving public health.
The council chairman noted that the return of the sanitation exercise aligns with his administration’s continuous efforts to promote cleanliness, discipline, and civic responsibility at the grassroots level.
According to him, environmental sanitation goes beyond routine cleaning of streets and public spaces, stressing that it encourages residents to take collective ownership of their environment and contribute to the overall wellbeing of their communities.
“The return of the sanitation exercise is not just about sweeping streets; it is about instilling discipline, protecting public health, and ensuring that every resident understands their role in safeguarding the environment,” Jakande said.
“Leadership must be demonstrated at every level, and the presence of government officials today reflects our commitment to leading by example.”
Governor Sanwo-Olu, in his remarks, announced that the monthly environmental sanitation exercise will officially resume on Saturday, April 25, 2026. He explained that the exercise will subsequently hold on the last Saturday of every month between 6:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m.
The governor urged Lagos residents to support the initiative by clearing drainage channels, disposing of waste properly, and embracing the collective responsibility of maintaining a clean and flood-resilient city.
The event attracted several dignitaries and community leaders, including the Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment, Hon. Tokunbo Wahab; former Senator Ganiyu Olarenwaju Solomon; the Executive Chairman of Mushin Local Government, Hon. Tunbosun Aruwe; members of the council cabinet and councillors, market leaders led by the Iyaloja, as well as representatives of Community Development Committees and Community Development Associations.
Residents and stakeholders present at the event joined the council chairman in reaffirming their commitment to promoting environmental cleanliness and sustainable practices across communities in Lagos State.
