The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has launched the ‘Youth Vote Count’ awareness campaign in Lagos, with the goal of mobilising youths for the ongoing nationwide Continuous Voter Registration campaign (CVR).
The INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr Olusegun Agbaje, stated this on Monday at an event at Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) in Lagos.
He stated that the exercise was done in collaboration with the EU-SDGN and the Youth Initiative for Advocacy, Growth, and Advancement (YIAGA).
Agbaje went on to say that the EU was working with INEC and YIAGA to encourage Nigerian youths to fully participate in the ongoing CVR and vote in the 2023 general elections.
“We discover that the youth from the records are supposed to take the lead.” There are numerous groups of people in this category.
“We can see many young people here who have yet to register for all of the activities we have been doing.”
“We believe that one of the ways we can begin to capture them is through concert, which is why this exercise will last from today until Saturday noon.”
According to him, the music carnival will take place on Saturday between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m., with many artists of youth admirers on display.
“The only access cards required of them are their PVCs or TVCs to demonstrate that they have registered.” We want them to know that the artists they enjoy will be present.
“We want to encourage young people to love Nigeria, politics, and governance, and to participate in order for us to have a successful election in 2023.”
“Our goal is not only to register for PVCs, but also to prepare them for the upcoming campaign.”
“They must not be used to cause problems or violence during campaigns or elections.”
If young people do not register before the CVR window closes on June 30, they will be unable to vote in 2023, according to Agbaje.
“The 2023 election is a battle to save our country, and young people bear the generational burden.”
He also stated that the YIAGA would bring the concert to Abuja on June 25 as well as other cities in the six geopolitical zones.
