The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Kwara State, has arrested three suspects in connection with the alleged rape of a seven-month pregnant woman in Woro village in the state’s Kaiama Local Government Area.

Lawal Ibrahim, 25, Mohammed Issa, 19, and Ibrahim Ahmed, 20, were also accused of robbing the woman and her husband.

According to the state’s NSCDC Public Relations Officer, Ayeni Olasunkanmi, who confirmed the incident, one of the three suspects, Lawal, was arrested while attempting to sell items stolen from the couple’s home.

“On July 5, a case of rape and robbery was reported at the NSCDC Woro Outpost,” he said. The crime was reported to have occurred around 2 a.m. at Woro village in Kaiama LGA.

“The victims: a seven-month pregnant woman and her husband were allegedly attacked by the suspects in their Woro home.” The pregnant woman was allegedly raped, and the assailants carted away some items. When the state Acting Commandant, DCC Jonah Gabriel, received the report, he ordered that the perpetrators be apprehended.

“Luck ran out on the suspects when one of them, Lawal Ibrahim, was apprehended by our men while attempting to dispose of the stolen items.”

“The apprehended suspect made some confessional statements, which led to the arrest of the other two suspects.”

Ayeni stated that the suspects were arraigned before a Kaiama area court.
