Gunmen abduct Nasarawa council chairman, kill police officer

The Executive Chairman of Nasarawa State’s Keffi Local Government Area, Muhammad Shehu, and his driver have reportedly been kidnapped by armed men.

He was kidnapped on the evening of May 20 while travelling with his driver and a police officer.

According to reports, the gunmen placed roadblocks along the Keffi-Akwanga road and fired erratically into the air, causing the victims to stop their vehicle before they were kidnapped.

The police orderly attempted to bring the situation under control by repelling the attack, but he was tragically killed in the process.

CP Adesina Soyemi, the state’s commissioner of police, confirmed the development and added that police operatives had taken control of the attack site to rescue the victims and apprehend the kidnappers.

He stated, “Police agents are currently in the area where they were abducted.” We have taken control of the environment, and I can assure you that they will soon be rescued, and that the perpetrators will not escape justice.”
