Kayode Fayemi, the governor of Ekiti State, has described the All Progressives Congress (APCreward )’s system as “poor and frustrating.”
Fayemi expressed concern during a meeting with APC delegates in Oyo State that long-time party members were being discarded in favor of moneybags who showed up and were handed party tickets.
“I believe our country is at a critical juncture,” he said, “and as a committed founding member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), I understand where our members’ shoes pinch.”
” I’m aware of the gaps in the party that need to be filled in order to maintain this strong party that still has a lot of room for improvement.
“I believe that the most critical improvement that we will require is to address our party’s reward system, which, for lack of a better term, is inadequate.
“This is the party where monkeys work and baboons eat the food,” says the narrator. We need to make sure that those who do the work benefit from any patronage that comes into the party. That is the only way we can keep our members’ commitment and enthusiasm.
“We also need to develop a successor generation platform so that the young people in the party see a pipeline in the leadership ladder and know that if they do the right thing and exhibit the values we’re all promoting, it will come to their time and they will be able to serve in various capacities of the party rather than discarding them after they’ve done all the work because some moneybags just showed up and said he wants to go to the House of Assembly and others.”
