A mudslide in the Okangbang community, 8 miles off Nasarawa in Calabar Municipality, Cross River State, buried four identical parents’ children alive.

Physically challenged Ndifreke Nkanta, the father of the deceased children, confirmed the incident.

He claimed that while two of the remaining four children suffered minor injuries and were hospitalised, the other four died instantly.

“The tragic incident occurred Sunday night following a significant downpour that caused numerous houses to collapse in the area.

“Four of my six children, who were inside the house that collapsed on them as a result of the mudslide, are no longer with me. When the house fell and swept them away, they were eating.

“In the hospital, my other two kids are in serious condition.

“When the flood swept the house away, I didn’t even take a pin.

Now, I don’t even have enough money to pay for the two still alive. I’m without a place to live. I make a public appeal for help. I require a home. I want to work. He stated, “I need food to give to these two in the hospital.

The community’s chairman, Mr. Asanga Donatus, revealed that the bereaved father was struggling financially in addition to grieving.

Even though he is a small-time trader, “as I speak to you, he has no money to even pay for the treatment of the two in the hospital.

He emphasised that “the situation in our neighbourhood is really precarious and requires prompt government intervention to prevent further home collapses and fatalities.”
