The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has read Farooq Kperogi’s latest tirade with more amusement than concern. Nigerians know him too well: his reputation precedes him – and it diminishes him.
This is the same Farooq Kperogi who has built a reputation not on facts, but on falsehoods:
• The Aisha Buhari Divorce Lie: He falsely alleged that former First Lady Aisha Buhari had divorced the late President Muhammadu Buhari before his passing – only to humiliatingly retract and apologise when caught.
• The Tinubu Collapse Hoax: He peddled the fake story that President Tinubu had “collapsed in his bathroom in Paris,” which collapsed under its own weight once the President returned strong and active.
• The Zoning Falsehood: He confidently declared that APC had “secretly zoned” the 2023 presidency to the North. Reality proved him wrong-Tinubu emerged as candidate, won, and is delivering reforms.
• The Jubril from Sudan Conspiracy: He lent oxygen to the absurd tale that Buhari had died and been replaced by a body double. This story actually put a question mark on his mental health. Responsible commentators avoid conspiracy theories; Kperogi amplifies them.
• Serial Flip-Flops: Time and again, he makes sensational claims, only to backtrack when confronted by facts. Nigerians are now wise to his pattern of recklessness.
With such a track record, it is ironic that Kperogi presumes to diagnose a sitting President with an imaginary “presidential dissociative disorder.”
If anything, his many reckless gaffes and falsehoods might actually be his own tacit admission of a disorder of mind, judgment and credibility. In trying to smear others, he may have inadvertently informed the public about his own state of health.
Indeed, one wonders how Kperogi manages to find sleep after spinning his trademark falsehoods followed inevitably by humiliating retractions.
That he still relates with family, friends, and associates barefacedly thereafter deserves a study of a human specie with no iota of honour.
As our people wisely say: there are issues that bring more shame and dishonor than petty theft.
In fact, Kperogi deserves to be considered as the first recipient of the ignoble and certainly not prestigious- “Nobel Award for Falsehood.” He has worked diligently over time to earn it, and we struggle to find a more deserving contender worldwide.
Meanwhile, President Tinubu is delivering reality, not rhetoric. In just two years, he has ended the fuel subsidy racket, unified exchange rates, blocked leakages, stabilized public finances, and attracted renewed investor confidence. These reforms are hard but necessary. They are not the fantasies Kperogi spins from behind a keyboard in America – they are real, visible, and measurable.
We welcome robust debate. But Kperogi’s pattern of reckless commentary and embarrassing retractions renders him little more than a serial rumour merchant. His notoriety now overshadows his message.
History will record Tinubu as a courageous reformer. Kperogi, by contrast, will be remembered as a purveyor of gaffes and falsehoods who unwittingly diagnosed himself while trying to defame others.
