The 2024 National Convention of the Youth Assembly of Nigeria (YAN), held at Agura Hotel in Abuja, marked a pivotal moment as delegates from across the nation elected new leaders for the 4th Assembly.
In a competitive election, Comrade Famuyibo Oluwasegun from Ekiti State emerged as National Speaker, securing 79 votes to surpass Comrade Charles Ezeanikwe of Anambra State and Comrade Sotonye Ekine of Rivers State.
Other key positions were filled with the election of Comrade Umar Bala Babayaro from Kaduna State as Deputy National Speaker and Comrade Sadiq Abubakar of Borno State as Majority Leader. Additional elected officials include Comrade Ezeanikwe Charles as Deputy Majority Leader, Comrade Raymond Sylvanus of Cross River State as National Chief Whip, Comrade Jennifer Ornguga of Benue State as National Minority Leader and Comrade Jude Chinonso, who was selected as Diaspora Ambassador.
In his address to the press, the National Speaker-elect, Comrade Famuyibo, expressed profound gratitude, characterizing his victory as a step forward for youth development in Nigeria. Acknowledging the instrumental support of Dr. Bello Matawalle, the Minister of State for Defence and former Governor of Zamfara State, Famuyibo praised Matawalle’s mentorship, guidance and unwavering encouragement, which he cited as essential to his success.
“My mentor, His Excellency Dr. Matawalle, extended a steadfast hand of leadership, direction and support, which turned this victory into a reality,” Famuyibo stated, reflecting on the significance of Matawalle’s role in his journey to leadership.
Comrade Famuyibo also extended appreciation to the YAN Board of Trustees, the Convention Planning Committee, and YAN delegates nationwide for entrusting him with the mantle of leadership for the 4th Assembly of Nigerian Youths.
The Acting Chairman of the YAN Board of Trustees, Hon. Gt.C Samuel, shared his insights and advice for the newly elected leaders, emphasizing the need for them to exemplify the values and aspirations of Nigerian youth. He encouraged the new leadership to bring fresh perspectives and strategic vision as they plan the forthcoming inauguration of the 4th Assembly.
Investigator news reports that Famuyibo will succeed outgoing National Speaker Rt. Hon. Shuaibu Sani, ushering in a new chapter for the Youth Assembly of Nigeria.
