The Eze Ndigbo of Ijegun/Ijedodo Community,Amb.Chika.C.Nwokedi, has called on the Igbos in diaspora to always upheld the norms, tradition, and culture whenever they found themselves,stressing out the need to maintain peace and harmony among the Igbos and none Igbos living together in any particular environment.
Eze Nwokedi stated this in his palace when he hosted Obi Udo Traditional Group in his palace on Sunday 8,June 2025.
Investigator news reports that the ceremonial feast was held to recognize and appreciate the group’s dedication to preserving Igbo traditions and fostering brotherhood among the Igbo community in the diaspora.
Eze Nwokedi who is the Chairman Council of Ndieze,Lagos State and one who is known for his commitment to peace and cultural promotion, described the gathering as a reaffirmation of identity, brotherhood, and shared heritage.
He noted that the group which he described as his brainchild has played a significant role and contributed immensely towards Igbo cultural preservation, stating that as pioneer and patron of the group he decided to appreciate them because they are always promoting culture and customs of our father
Nwokedi expressed satisfaction at the massive turnout of Obi Udo Traditional Group members, urging them to always maintain peace and tranquility at all times, while advising the leadership to be their brothers keeper in unity, love praying that God will continue to bless them.
“I decided to host the Obi Udo because they are my brothers. We are like one big family I pray that God blesses them. Obi Udo is a cultural club and these are my sons.”he submitted
In his speech Chief Chukwuemeka Ezuruike, ( Nwaropuaku Na Umuobom Ideato South) ,Onye Isi Obi,described Eze Nwokedi as their father, says they are in the palace to celebrate with him.
He noted that the aim of the group is to promote Igbo tradition more especially now that a lot of people are ignorant of their culture and traditions.
Chief Ezuruike who is the founder,commended Eze Nwokedi for acknowledging their support and contributions towards ensuring that he has a peaceful reign, while assuring him of their support.
“Eze Nwokedi is a man of good heart, a philanthropist, and helper to the needy,he is worth representing them as Eze Ndigbo of Ijegun/ Ijedodo Community, and I promise that you will continue to rule us in good health ”
The Chairman of Obi Udo traditional group,Nnaemeka ifeanyi Gabriel expressed delight says he is happy to witnessed the warm reception showered on them, maintaining that the group always honoring Eze Nwokedi as their father, that is why they gathered in his palace in celebration.
Speaking on behalf of the palace, Chief Dr. Godwin Aneme, ( Ezeonyekachuwu Na Ozuburu), Aka Ji Offor Ndigbo Ijegun/Ijedodo kingdom, described the group as their son.
He stressed that Obi Udo Traditional Group was formed by the cabinet of Eze Nwokedi, describing them as the eye of the palace, and stand as an ambassador that represents the palace to the outside world.
“The aim and objective of Obi Udo is to motivate and improve the tradition of Igbos in diaspora. As traditional people, we try to promote Igbo culture and traditions in Lagos State.”
” I called on other Igbos living in Lagos State to join the group to enable them know the norms and tradition which will go a long way in promoting peace and harmony among the Igbo’s living in Lagos State
Chief Aneme, charged Obi Udo Traditional Group Chairman to continue to carry everyone along, prayed that God will bless Obi Udo as they progresses.
According to him, ” Eze Nwokedi decided to host us as his children, for the way we are organizing ourselves.
“Since the beginning of the palace, we have not witness any fracas or disorder as a group of Obi Udo rather we are moving forward.
Investigator news gathered that the occasion, rich in Igbo music, food, and spiritual blessings, symbolized the enduring strength of Igbo customs and the significance of preserving indigenous identity, even in the urban landscape of Lagos.
This cultural event stands as a testament to the resilience of Igbo heritage and the importance of unity among traditional institutions and their custodians.”
The occasion was attended by members and executives of Obi Udo, cabinet chiefs of Obi Chukwu Palace,the Eze Ndigbo of Ikotun /Igando and Egan,HRH Eze Malacky Udeze, Chief Dr Okechukwu Ubuebu, Chairman Igbo in council
Highlight of the event was a raffle draw competition where some individuals went home with exciting gifts from Eze Nwokedi, presentation of a cow gift to the group and nomination of three members from Obi Udo traditional group for chieftaincy title during the new yam festivals of His Eze Ambassador Chika Nwokedi
