The General Manager of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Olalekan Bakare-Oki, has announced the deployment of additional personnel and critical logistics across Lagos State ahead of the Easter celebrations, while urging motorists to avoid drunk driving, reckless speeding and other unsafe road practices.
In a statement released by Adebayo Taofiq Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, Bakare-Oki issued the advisory as Lagos prepares for increased human and vehicular movement typically associated with the Easter season.
He called on all road users to exercise heightened vigilance, discipline and strict adherence to traffic regulations during the festive period.
The LASTMA boss warned motorists against driving under the influence of alcohol, dangerous overtaking, excessive speeding and other irresponsible behaviours capable of causing avoidable accidents, loss of lives and destruction of property.
According to him, while festive seasons are periods of celebration, they often place additional pressure on the transportation network, making it necessary for motorists to exercise caution and responsibility.
To ensure smooth movement of people, goods and essential services throughout the Easter holidays, LASTMA has deployed additional officers to major traffic corridors, transport hubs, highways, intersections, business districts, recreational centres, religious venues and other strategic locations across the five divisions of Lagos State.
The officers, he said, have been directed to intensify surveillance, enforce compliance and promptly address traffic disruptions.
Bakare-Oki also disclosed that LASTMA has deployed high and medium capacity tow trucks, along with essential operational equipment such as traffic cones, safety barriers and other response tools across critical corridors.
He explained that the logistics would enable swift response to vehicle breakdowns and traffic incidents, ensuring quick restoration of order and minimal disruption.
The General Manager said the expanded deployment reflects LASTMA’s commitment to efficient mobility and the safety of residents, commuters and visitors during the festive period.
He appealed to motorists to remain patient, obey traffic officers and demonstrate responsible conduct, stressing that safety is a shared responsibility.
Bakare-Oki went further to urge commercial drivers, transport union leaders, fleet managers and logistics operators to intensify awareness campaigns among their members on the dangers of overloading, excessive speed and substance abuse.
He noted that collective compliance would significantly reduce road crashes during the festive season.
LASTMA also extended Easter greetings to residents of Lagos State and assured the public of uninterrupted traffic management and enforcement services throughout the celebrations.
The agency encouraged members of the public to promptly report traffic violations, obstructions or emergencies for immediate intervention.
