Coastal Road: LASTMA Begins Probe Over Alleged N100,000 Extortion Of Commercial Drivers.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority has commenced a full-scale investigation into allegations that some of its officers extorted ₦100,000 from commercial bus drivers along Coastal Road.

The allegation, which surfaced on Facebook through a publication by Objectv Media, quoted an individual identified as Tosin as claiming that from an unspecified Monday, LASTMA officers allegedly arrested commercial buses operating along the Coastal Road and compelled drivers to pay ₦100,000 before their vehicles were released.

Reacting to the development,In a statement signed by Adebayo Taofiq, Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, LASTMA, said it views the allegation with utmost seriousness, stressing that the Authority remains a disciplined, professional, and ethically guided institution that does not condone misconduct, abuse of office, or extortion by any of its personnel.

The Authority disclosed that management has already initiated a thorough, impartial, and comprehensive investigation into the matter.

It further assured members of the public that any officer found culpable at the conclusion of the investigation would face appropriate disciplinary action in accordance with established rules and regulations.

As part of efforts to ensure a transparent process, LASTMA also invited the complainant, Tosin, to appear at the Office of the General Manager at the LASTMA Headquarters to present verifiable evidence to substantiate the claims.

The Authority reiterated its commitment to transparency, accountability, and professionalism, noting that maintaining public trust remains a priority.

LASTMA further encouraged members of the public to report any perceived misconduct through appropriate and verified channels, reaffirming its dedication to ensuring fairness, orderliness, and respect for the rights of all road users across Lagos.
