The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd. ), has congratulated Senator Ademola Adeleke on his victory in the 2022 Osun governorship election.
On Sunday, hours after the Independent National Electoral Commission announced Adeleke’s victory, the President issued a congratulatory message via his official Twitter account.
“I congratulate Senator Ademola Adeleke, the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, on his victory in the Osun governorship election,” he wrote.
“The people of Osun have expressed their will through the ballot box.” “The successful conduct of #OsunDecides2022 is a demonstration of the maturity and commitment of all stakeholders toward strengthening the integrity of the electoral process in Nigeria,” he added.
The President also pledged to “leave a legacy of credible elections in Nigeria.”
Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, the Returning Officer for the election and Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos, announced that Adeleke received 403,371 votes, defeating the incumbent Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress, who received 375,027 votes in a hotly contested race.
According to the total votes recorded by the electoral umpire, the PDP won 17 of the state’s 30 Local Government Areas, while the APC won the remaining 13.
