Hajia Laure Mai Kunu, the elderly mother of Kano Central Senatorial candidate under the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), Abdussalam Abdulkarim AA Zaura, has been kidnapped by unknown gunmen, according to reports.
Hajia Mai Kunu was apprehended on Monday morning at her residence in the Rangaza ward of Zaura village in Kano State’s Ungogo Local Government Area (LGA).
Engr Abdullahi Garba Ramat, chairman of the LGA, confirmed the incident on his official Facebook page. “Innalillahi wa inna’ilaihirraj’un, We just awoke to the sad news that unknown gunmen stormed Ungogo LGA early this morning and whisked AA ZAURA’s mother away to an unknown destination. Allah ka kubutar mana da Baba Laure.”

Armed gangs operating primarily in northern states have been terrorising students, villagers, and highway motorists for more than a decade.
They have also killed thousands of people.

According to a report by SB Morgen (SBM) Intelligence, a Lagos-based political risk analysis firm, at least $18.34m was paid to kidnappers as ransom – mostly by families and the government – between June 2011 and March 2020.
