Two petroleum tankers collided and caught fire at the Felele end of Lokoja, the capital of Kogi State. Three people have been confirmed dead, and two more have suffered serious injuries.

Overspeeding and risky overtaking, according to the state’s commander of the Federal Roads Safety Corps (FRSC), Stephen Dawulung, were to blame for the incident.

The accident, according to eyewitness accounts, was caused by a head-on collision between the petrol-filled tanker and another tanker travelling in the opposite direction.
He asserted that the incident may have been brought on by the ongoing reconstruction work on the Felele section of the Lokoja–Abuja road, which is forcing drivers to travel in only one direction.

Along with the deceased, numerous others suffered burns of varying severity and are being treated at Lokoja medical centres. Additionally, some of the nearby businesses and some parked cars were also set on fire.
