A bill mandating the death penalty for all banditry-related offences in the state was approved by the Zamfara State House of Assembly.
On June 28, 2022, the House of Assembly apparently approved the bill.
It claimed that the bill calls for the punishment of informants and everyone complicit in kidnapping, cattle rustling, and banditry in the unrest-ridden state.
The legislators claimed that informants who support terrorists would now be subject to public hanging.
Abdullahi Shinkafi, the governor of Zamfara’s special adviser on intergovernmental affairs, commented on the bill’s passage by saying: “Today, the governor is going to sign into law the death penalty for kidnappers, informants, and any other banditry-related issues.”
“The house of assembly in Zamfara passed into law yesterday the death penalty for kidnappers, informers, and contributors.”
