Betty Akeredolu, the first lady of Ondo state, has slammed the outcome of the Imo East senatorial primary, in which business mogul Alex Mbata was declared the party’s consensus candidate.
After many other candidates, including the wife of Ondo State First Lady, Betty Akeredolu, withdrew from the race, Mbata was declared the winner.
The Ondo state first lady, who stormed the secretariat with her security aides and supporters, told journalists that she would defy any attempt by the state governor to declare one of the aspirants the winner without a vote being held anywhere.

She claimed that the governor was imposing someone on other candidates under the guise of a consensus candidate, a claim she rejected.
The delegates’ lists, which were supposed to be used in the election, were hidden from Akeredolu and the other candidates, according to her.
“It’s nearly 3 p.m., and the elections have yet to begin,” she said. Governor Hope Uzodimma’s attempts to impose a consensus candidate on us must be rejected outright. The primary election must take place so that I can congratulate the winner if I lose.
“They called us and asked us to resign for one unpopular candidate, and I told them no, that the process had to continue.” There will have to be a vote. In the twenty-first century, you simply cannot do that to people like us. I’ve visited each of the district’s nine LGAs. The people are ready to cast their ballots in my favour.”

“You can’t write numbers and declare a winner when there hasn’t been a vote.” As a result, I urge the APC’s national chairman to reject any senatorial candidate from Imo East. There hasn’t been a primary in a long time. The delegates are still waiting, despite the fact that they have smuggled in a name as the winner of a fictitious primary election.
