The Association of Tourism Practitioners of Nigeria (ATPN) South West Region has strongly condemned a recent report published by Vanguard newspaper on the Ojude Oba festival, describing it as negative and damaging to Nigeria’s image.
In a press statement signed and made available to Investigator news on Monday, June 16, 2025 by the Vice President, ATPN South West Region, Hon. Apata Samson Nunayon,expressed disappointment and concern over the report, which they believe was unbalanced and insensitive.
He argued that such reporting can perpetuate negative stereotypes and discourage tourism and investment in the region.
Apata urged media practitioners to exercise responsibility and cultural sensitivity when reporting on cultural events.
He called on Vanguard to revisit their report and provide a more balanced representation of the Ojude Oba festival.

The ATPN South West Region Vice President reaffirmed the tourism board commitment to promoting the region’s cultural heritage and tourism industry, and the country at large.
According to him,the controversy surrounding Vanguard’s report has sparked a wider debate about the role of the media in promoting cultural heritage and tourism in Nigeria.
“The ATPN South West Region’s condemnation of the report is seen as a call to action for media practitioners to be more responsible and sensitive in their reporting.”
