On Friday, a large number of students demonstrated against the Academic Staff Union of Universities’ continued strike (ASUU).
Because the Federal Government and the union failed to follow the 2009 agreement, the union called a warning strike in February of this year.
Following the expiration of the warning strike, the union decided to extend it for another 12 weeks.
Our correspondent, on the other hand, adds that students in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, held a peaceful protest on Friday to express their dissatisfaction with the strike.
According to reports, the students also blocked the University of Ibadan-Mokola Road in Ibadan during the demonstration.
Solomon Emiola, a University of Ibadan 200-level student, claimed that the protest was important because they were tired of remaining at home.
“Our politicians have continued to play politics with our future,” he remarked. We intend to shut down the entire city of Ibadan till our demands are met.”
In his personal contribution, former TUC Chairman Comrade Andrew Emelieze remarked that the protest sought to “awaken the spirit of students whose rights are being violated by the government.”

The prolonged protest by university lecturers, according to Emelieze, is the result of leadership failure and irresponsibility.
