The Arewa community in Lagos celebrated a remarkable political milestone yesterday as Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin, graciously approved two slots for the appointment of Senior Legislative Aides (SLAs).
This development followed an important political engagement hosted by Senator Adetokunbo Abiru at his residence.
The occasion began when Senator Abiru invited the Leader of the Lagos East Arewa Community, Alhaji Shehu Usman, to his home to meet with the Deputy Senate President. The Senator also applauded Senator Abiru for carrying the Arewa Community in Lagos along in political and empowerment activities. He equally commended Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for appointing Alhaji Usman to the Lagos State Market Advisory Council.
After comprehensive discussions, Senator Barau Jibrin expressed appreciation to Senator Abiru for his consistent support and care for the Arewa community in his constituency. The Deputy Senate President acknowledged the importance of unity and fair representation for all Nigerians, regardless of ethnicity or place of residence.
In a symbolic gesture of empowerment, Senator Barau asked Alhaji Shehu Usman, who led a delegation of five prominent Arewa leaders to Senator Abiru’s residence, to submit two names for the SLA appointments. The gesture was warmly received as a mark of recognition for the community’s contributions.
Alhaji Shehu Usman expressed profound gratitude to the Deputy Senate President for his generosity and statesmanship. He reaffirmed the Arewa community’s commitment to supporting national unity and fostering peaceful coexistence in Lagos.
Following the meeting, Alhaji Shehu Usman led the distinguished senators to the Mile 12 International Market. The arrival was met with a mammoth crowd, where enthusiastic residents and traders welcomed the leaders with cheers and applause.
