Barr. Maurice Ebam, National Youth Leader of the African Democratic Congress, resigned his membership with about 50,000 loyalists on Thursday.
Ebam’s resignation comes just three weeks after the party’s presidential candidate, Kingsley Moghalu, resigned over alleged poor handling of the Abeokuta primary elections.
According to a letter obtained by our correspondent and addressed to the party’s National Chairman, Ebam stated that the party had served as a training ground for him.
“The ADC DNA is in my system,” the letter said. For me, ADC has been a learning institution. I didn’t just serve; I also learned. It is a platform that has provided opportunities to young people who are willing, and I was given the opportunity to serve. It is well documented, and posterity bears witness.” I resign from ADC with mixed feelings. While serving as a member and youth leader, I willingly and selflessly sacrificed my time and resources, and even put my career on hold, for the cause of nation-building with ADC as the platform. Now it’s time to contribute to nation-building, albeit on a different platform.”
Ebam promised to provide relevant assistance, revealing that he would leave the party with his foot soldiers.
“I have gathered over 50,000 passionate, organic, and dedicated grassroot youths who will be moving with me following my consultation with youths from diverse strata and various youth movements, and we have all unanimously concluded that decamping from ADC is the best option at this time.”
