Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has led a high-powered delegation of the State Government to Kuwait to unlock affordable financing and strategic partnerships for the implementation of the Kogi State Development Plan 2024–2056.

The mission, which focused on water, agriculture, energy, education, solid minerals and industrial development, has successfully opened a new development partnership between Kogi State and key Kuwaiti institutions, with technical teams expected to commence preparation of priority projects for implementation.    At the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, KFAED, Governor Ododo and his team met with the Acting Director-General, Mr. Rashaid A. Al-Bader, and senior officials of the Fund, where he presented Kogi’s long-term development vision and sought a comprehensive partnership to transform the State’s vast natural and human resources into sustainable economic prosperity.

The Governor highlighted Kogi’s strategic location at the confluence of Rivers Niger and Benue, its extensive water resources, huge agricultural potential, rich solid mineral deposits and emerging energy opportunities as key assets that can drive job creation, food security, industrialisation and improved living standards when supported with the right infrastructure and expertise.

In response, the Kuwait Fund expressed readiness in principle to partner with Kogi State on priority projects, subject to technical, financial and institutional appraisal.

The emerging partnership will focus on water infrastructure, irrigation and agricultural transformation, power and renewable energy, solid minerals development and beneficiation, agro-industrial development, transport, communications and ICT, as well as education and healthcare.

The cooperation will also cover project preparation, feasibility studies, engineering designs, technical assistance, capacity building and environmental and social impact assessments.

Governor Ododo noted that the sectors are interlinked, explaining that improved water infrastructure would strengthen communities and agriculture, irrigation would enable all-season farming, reliable energy would power agro-processing and industries, while mineral beneficiation would help Kogi retain more value from its resources.

Beyond financing, the delegation held strategic talks with Kuwait University on collaboration in education, research, innovation, engineering, agriculture, water resources management and technology. At the University, Governor Ododo met with the President, Prof. Dina Musaed Al-Mailem, where both sides explored opportunities for student and faculty exchange, joint research and capacity development between Kuwait University and tertiary institutions in Kogi.

The delegation also met with the Governor of Al Ahmadi Governorate, His Excellency Sheikh Humoud Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, to discuss a sister-government relationship and cooperation in infrastructure, investment and industrial development.

In another key engagement, the team met with Kuwait’s Minister of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy, Dr. Subaih Abdulaziz Al-Mukhaizeem, to explore cooperation in water infrastructure, irrigation, renewable energy and power development – areas critical to Kogi’s plan to expand all-season agriculture, develop agro-processing hubs and build reliable energy infrastructure for industrial growth.

The mission further opened discussions on commerce, investment, industrial cooperation and value addition, with a view to strengthening economic ties between Kogi and Kuwaiti businesses.

Investigator news reports that a major outcome of the visit is the agreement to establish a technical process to translate the high-level engagements into concrete projects, including detailed project documentation, feasibility studies and technical assessments.

Governor Ododo expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the Federal Government’s diplomatic support that enables sub-national governments to engage international development partners, and commended the Nigerian Embassy in Kuwait led by Ambassador Dr. Abubakar Sanusi Aliyu for facilitating the engagements.

According to the Governor, the Kuwait mission marks a shift from discussions to detailed technical work aimed at building sustainable partnerships that will help unlock Kogi’s full potential across critical sectors.

Investigator news gathered that members of the delegation included the Commissioner for Finance, Budget and Economic Planning, Asiwaju Asiru Idris, FCA; Commissioner for Works, Hon. Momoh Ozigi Deedat; Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Hon. Timothy Ojomah; Commissioner for Water Resources, Hon. Farouk Danlami; State Auditor-General, Hon. Yakubu Yusuf Okala; and Chief Economic Adviser to the Governor, Hon. Nda Salami.
