…….Govt Calls For Safety On Highways.

Six persons have died and two others sustained injuries in a fatal auto crash along the Kabba-Odo Ape Road in Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The accident, which occurred on Saturday, involved a truck and a commercial vehicle, with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirming speeding as a contributing factor.
The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the General Hospital, Kabba, while the injured victims are receiving treatment.
Reacting to the tragedy, the Kogi State Government commiserated with the families of the victims and wished the injured quick recovery.
The Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, in a statement on Sunday, said Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo was deeply saddened by the incident, describing it as painful and unfortunate.
“The Governor shares in the grief of the affected families and communities, praying God to grant eternal rest to the deceased and give their loved ones the strength to bear the loss,” Fanwo said.
He warned motorists against reckless driving, dangerous overtaking and driving while fatigued, noting that such habits turn ordinary journeys into tragedies.
Fanwo also urged the FRSC to intensify enforcement against over-speeding on highways across the state and strengthen public enlightenment and roadside monitoring to check violation of speed limits.
He said the call became necessary to complement the efforts of the FRSC and other stakeholders in reducing road crashes and protecting lives, stressing that Kogi State remains committed to working with relevant agencies to improve road safety.
He appealed to motorists to make safety their priority.
“No destination is worth risking human lives,” he said, urging all road users to observe traffic regulations and exercise patience and responsibility on the highways.
