The Executive Chairman of Isolo LCDA, Olasoju Adebayo, has welcomed the planned rehabilitation of Oke-Afa Bridge and urged residents, motorists and businesses to cooperate with the Lagos State Government during the 3-week closure.
The State government, through the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, announced on Monday a temporary shutdown of the dual-carriage bridge linking Isolo and Ejigbo to allow for repairs.
According to the traffic management plan, the first phase affecting the outbound Isolo-to-Ejigbo axis will be closed from Friday, August 28 to Friday, September 11.
The second phase covering the inbound Ejigbo-to-Isolo section will run from*September 12 to September 18.
In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Rasheed Iskilu on Tuesday 25, August 2026,Olasoju described the intervention as proactive and necessary, noting that the bridge is a critical link for residents, commuters and businesses in Isolo and adjoining communities.
“This is a welcome development and one that we must all support. The Oke-Afa Bridge is an important transportation link, and its rehabilitation will undoubtedly enhance its structural integrity, improve safety and guarantee smoother movement for our people in the long run,” he said.
The Chairman also acknowledged that the works would cause temporary inconveniences for road users and businesses around the axis.
“While we appreciate the Lagos State Government for this timely intervention, we equally understand that the rehabilitation works will come with temporary inconveniences for motorists, residents and businesses.
I therefore appeal for patience, understanding and cooperation from everyone during this period,” Olasoju stated.
Olasoju urged motorists and commuters to strictly adhere to the traffic management plan and use designated alternative routes during the closure period.
He also called on residents and community stakeholders to cooperate with traffic personnel deployed to manage the diversion and ensure orderly movement.
The Council Chairman assured that awareness campaigns will be intensified, especially to alert night drivers, to prevent mishaps during the period.
“I appeal to our people to bear with the government and one another. Let us cooperate fully with the authorities so that the project can be completed within the stipulated timeframe.
The temporary inconvenience is necessary for the lasting benefit of our people,” he added.
The Council boss expressed confidence that the rehabilitation would ultimately deliver a safer and more efficient bridge, describing it as a collective investment in the safety and development of the community.
