Ikeja, Lagos— The President of the Conference of Public Affairs Officers in Lagos State Local Governments (CPAO), Alhaja Rashidat Bukola Bankole, has charged Public Affairs Officers across the 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas to upgrade their skills and take full ownership of their duties for effective service delivery.
Bankole gave the charge on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at the CPAO monthly meeting held at Ikeja Local Government, where she called on officers to be proactive, responsible, and supportive of their Heads of Units.
The CPAO President stressed that the success of public affairs operations in councils depends on the commitment of every officer.
“The take-home today should be contributing positively and judiciously to the activities of our various units. You must never leave the duties of the office to your bosses alone,” she said.
She noted that Public Affairs Officers are the face of their councils and must be ready to project government activities and achievements to the people.
Bankole also urged Heads of Departments to continue training and mentoring their subordinates, adding that practical exposure is key to building confidence and competence.
“You have been doing so well training your staff, and I have seen some subordinates doing well, but you all still need to push your staff to face the crowd and handle the microphone while you stand by to encourage them,” she said.
According to her, giving junior officers opportunities to speak and handle assignments will prepare them for greater responsibilities.
The CPAO President went further to advise officers to take advantage of available online training programmes to improve their professional capacity and advance their careers.
She charged all Public Affairs Officers across Lagos State’s 57 councils to remain committed, collaborative and professional in discharging their responsibilities.
“Our collective goal is to strengthen Public Affairs operations and ensure that the work of our councils is properly communicated to residents,” Bankole concluded.
Investigator news gathered that the meeting was attended by Public Affairs Officers from LGAs and LCDAs across the state.
