Accolades have continued to pour in for the immediate past Executive Chairman of Somolu Local Government, Hon. Abdul Hamed Salawu, popularly known as Dullar, and the incumbent Chairman, Hon. Lateef Ashimi, following the commissioning of the newly reconstructed Alade Market by the President-General of the Association of Commodity Market Women and Men of Nigeria and Iyaloja-General of Nigeria, Chief (Mrs.) Folashade Tinubu-Ojo.
The colourful commissioning ceremony, which attracted traders, residents, market leaders and other stakeholders, was marked by excitement and widespread commendation for the transformation of the market into a modern commercial facility.
Stakeholders at the event particularly applauded Dullar for conceiving and driving the reconstruction project, which had reached over 90 per cent completion before the expiration of his tenure.
They described the initiative as a reflection of his visionary leadership and commitment to improving the welfare and business environment of traders across Somolu.
Traders also recalled Dullar’s interventions following devastating fire incidents that affected the market, noting that his swift response helped restore confidence and provided the foundation for the eventual reconstruction of the facility.
Chief Tinubu-Ojo commended the spirit of continuity that ensured the successful completion of the project, while praising Chairman Ashimi for sustaining the vision and bringing the ambitious project to fruition.
The event also featured the presentation of empowerment grants to selected beneficiaries, further demonstrating the administration’s commitment to supporting traders, promoting entrepreneurship and strengthening grassroots economic development.
Residents, market leaders and community stakeholders described the commissioning as a landmark moment in the development history of Somolu, noting that the new Alade Market represents a lasting legacy of purposeful leadership, continuity and inclusive development.
They further expressed optimism that the modern facility would provide a safer, more conducive and economically vibrant environment for traders while contributing significantly to the growth of commercial activities in the local government.
