The Ikeja Local Government, under the leadership of Executive Chairman, Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda (AKOD), is set to distribute free General Certificate of Education (GCE) forms to eligible indigent students as part of efforts to expand educational opportunities for youths in the council.
Investigator news reports that the council will also officially launch its two-month Temporary Holiday Job Programme 2.0 for secondary school leavers, students and undergraduates residing in Ikeja Local Government.
The twin initiatives, tagged “Education | Empowerment | Opportunity,” will be formally unveiled on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at the Marriage Registry Hall, Ikeja Local Government, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
According to the council, the programmes are designed to provide meaningful support to young people, particularly those from financially disadvantaged backgrounds, while equipping them with opportunities to develop skills and gain practical experience.
The free GCE registration initiative, now in its second edition, is aimed at removing financial barriers that may prevent qualified indigent students from sitting for the examination and pursuing further educational opportunities.
The Temporary Holiday Job Programme 2.0, on the other hand, seeks to engage secondary school leavers, students and undergraduates productively during the long vacation.
Participants are expected to gain exposure to workplace environments while developing valuable skills, discipline, responsibility and experience that could improve their prospects for future employment.
The administration said the initiatives reflect its broader commitment to education, youth empowerment and human capital development, stressing that supporting young people remains essential to building a stronger and more prosperous Ikeja.
The council described the programmes as more than short-term interventions, but strategic investments in the future of Ikeja youths by providing them with access to education, practical experience and opportunities for personal development.
