LAGOS — The Lagos Grassroots Alliance has intensified its grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections with the inauguration of coordinators and Local Government Managers for Lagos West 1.
The inauguration, organised and hosted by the Deputy Director-General of Lagos West 1, Alhaji Abass Abiodun Bismillahi, was held on Friday, August 6, 2026, at the Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA.
The event brought together political leaders, coordinators and stakeholders from the six Local Government Areas that make up Lagos West 1 — Agege, Alimosho, Ifako-Ijaiye, Ikeja, Mushin and Oshodi-Isolo.
The Convener of the Lagos Grassroots Alliance, Owolabi J. Falana, attended the ceremony and charged the newly inaugurated officials to focus on expanding political participation and strengthening engagement at the grassroots.
Under the new structure, each LGA Coordinator is expected to work with seven already-appointed Steering Committee members drawn from the various LCDAs within their respective Local Government Areas.
The Local Government Managers constitute a separate component of the wider grassroots structure covering the 20 LGAs and 37 LCDAs in Lagos State.
They are expected to work with Ward Captains already appointed in their respective areas.
Investigator news reports that officials who were unable to attend the inauguration due to political engagements in their respective LGAs and LCDAs will be inaugurated subsequently at the LGA office.
The event attracted notable political figures, including the All Progressives Congress Chairman of Mushin Local Government, Hon. Sesan Ogundinmu, and the Vice Chairman of Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA, Hon. Niyi Awodogan.
The Executive Chairman of Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA, Hon. Seyi Jakande, was represented by members of the council executive and councillors. The council leadership also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the activities and objectives of the Lagos Grassroots Alliance.
Also in attendance were the Deputy Director-General of Lagos East, Hon. Seyi Odufowokan, other state executives and members of the Board of Trustees of the Alliance.
Speaking at the event, the Convener, Owolabi J. Falana, explained that the mobilisation initiative was not intended to simply move existing APC members from one political structure to another.
He said the focus was to identify party members who were not currently affiliated with any group or playing an active role in political activities, while also encouraging new people to participate in the political process.
Falana stressed that moving the same individuals from one structure to another would amount to duplication of people and effort, rather than genuine grassroots expansion.
He therefore urged the Coordinators and Managers to take the mobilisation exercise to their respective communities, identify new participants and create opportunities for wider involvement in the political process.
He expressed confidence that the initiative would strengthen grassroots mobilisation, broaden political participation and deepen engagement with residents across Lagos ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Investigator news gathered that the newly inaugurated officials were subsequently directed to return to their respective areas and commence the inauguration of their already-appointed Steering Committee members and Ward Captains.
