The Executive Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda (AKOD), has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) to combat illegal migration, enhance public safety, and improve security across the council area. 
Comrade AKOD made the pledge while receiving the 28th Comptroller of Immigration, Lagos State Command, Comptroller Christopher Olu Onajinrin, and other senior officers of the command during a courtesy visit to the Ikeja Local Government Secretariat.
The visit also featured the presentation of an Award of Commendation to the chairman by the Nigeria Immigration Service, Lagos State Command, in recognition of his consistent support for the agency.
Speaking during the meeting, the council boss applauded the longstanding partnership between Ikeja Local Government and the Immigration Service, recalling that his support for the Alausa Passport Office began during his tenure as Secretary to the Local Government and has continued since assuming office as Executive Chairman.
He stressed that addressing security challenges requires strong cooperation among government institutions and security agencies.
“The local government cannot do it alone. We will continue to collaborate with the Immigration Service to improve security, address illegal migration, and serve our people better.
We are also ready to consider your request for support to the state headquarters at Alagbon,” AKOD said.
Responding, Comptroller Onajinrin praised the chairman’s unwavering commitment to the Nigeria Immigration Service, noting that Ikeja Local Government had provided critical office facilities, including air conditioners and chairs, which enhanced operations at the Alausa Passport Office.
He described the office as one of the best-performing passport centres in the country and said the council’s contributions had played a significant role in its success.
The Comptroller further disclosed that the Lagos State Command had repatriated over 500 illegal immigrants in the last six months as part of efforts to strengthen national security.
He also highlighted ongoing reforms by the service, including the introduction of the ECOWAS National Biometric Identity Card and the e-Visa platform, which enables eligible visitors to obtain Nigerian visas online within 24 hours.
He appealed for sustained support from Ikeja Local Government and urged residents to provide credible information that would assist the service in identifying and apprehending illegal migrants operating within the council area.
