The Executive Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda (AKOD), has urged eligible indigent students across the council area to take advantage of the ongoing application and screening exercise for the distribution of 200 free General Certificate of Education (GCE) application forms.
In a release signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Adeola Ogunlade,the Chairman emphasized that the initiative, which remains open to qualified applicants, reflects his administration’s unwavering commitment to expanding access to quality education and empowering young people to achieve their academic aspirations regardless of their financial circumstances.
He called on parents, guardians, and community leaders to ensure that eligible children and wards participate in the screening exercise before the application window closes, noting that the programme is specifically designed to assist students who may be unable to afford the cost of registering for the GCE examination.
The screening exercise is currently taking place at the Marriage Hall, Ikeja Local Government Secretariat, daily between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Interested applicants are encouraged to attend on any of the designated screening days while the exercise lasts.
Investigator news reports that to qualify for the free GCE application forms, applicants must meet the following requirements:
Be an SS2 student proceeding to SS3 or have completed SS3, with evidence of class.
Possess a valid National Identification Number (NIN),have a functional email address,provide a functional phone number and present a valid LASSRA Registration Number.
Speaking on the initiative, Comrade Dauda reaffirmed that education remains one of the strongest tools for transforming lives and building a prosperous society.
He stressed that his administration will continue to invest in programmes that give every deserving student an equal opportunity to succeed.
He therefore encouraged all qualified residents not to miss the opportunity, describing the free GCE registration scheme as another demonstration of his government’s commitment to educational development and youth empowerment in Ikeja Local Government.
