The Executive Chairman of Òdì-Olowo/Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Dr. Seyi Jakande, has been honoured with the Award of Excellence by the Association of Medical Officers of Health of Nigeria (AMOHN), Lagos Chapter, in recognition of his outstanding commitment to strengthening primary healthcare delivery and improving the health and well-being of residents at the grassroots.
The prestigious award was presented during the AMOHN Lagos Chapter July 2026 Meeting, hosted by Òdì-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA on Tuesday, July 7, 2026. 
The gathering brought together Medical Officers of Health from across Lagos State to deliberate on strategies for enhancing primary healthcare services, promoting public health initiatives, and strengthening leadership within the healthcare sector.
The recognition marked another milestone for the Jakande administration, whose investments in healthcare infrastructure, disease prevention programmes, health education campaigns, and community-based interventions have continued to earn widespread commendation.
Presenting the award, the Chairman of AMOHN, Dr. Adeleke Awolesi, applauded Hon. Dr. Jakande for demonstrating exceptional leadership and unwavering commitment to improving healthcare delivery within the council area.
According to him, the administration has consistently created an enabling environment for quality healthcare through sustained investments in primary healthcare facilities, support for healthcare professionals, and policies that have expanded access to affordable medical services for residents.
He noted that the council’s impressive achievements in healthcare development made the Award of Excellence a well-deserved recognition.
Speaking during the event, Hon. Dr. Jakande reaffirmed that healthcare remains one of the cardinal priorities of his administration, stressing that a healthy population is fundamental to sustainable development.
He disclosed that the council currently operates seven functional Primary Healthcare Centres, providing essential medical services to thousands of residents across the LCDA.
The Chairman also revealed that an ultra-modern Primary Healthcare Centre, equipped with modern medical facilities, has been completed and is awaiting commissioning, describing the project as another significant step towards improving healthcare accessibility in the community.
Investigator news reports that as part of efforts to reduce the financial burden of healthcare on residents, Dr. Jakande stated that the council has enrolled over 1,000 residents into a one-year free health insurance scheme, enabling beneficiaries to access quality healthcare services without financial hardship.
He added that the administration has also intensified community health outreach programmes, maternal and child healthcare services, immunisation campaigns, disease prevention initiatives, and public health awareness programmes aimed at promoting healthier lifestyles among residents.
Receiving the Award of Excellence, the Executive Chairman expressed profound appreciation to AMOHN for the recognition, describing it as a validation of his administration’s commitment to people-centred governance.
“This honour is deeply appreciated. It is not just a recognition of what we have achieved but a challenge to do even more. As the saying goes, the reward for good work is more work,” he said.
He assured residents that his administration would continue to invest in modern healthcare infrastructure, strengthen primary healthcare services, support healthcare professionals, and implement policies that guarantee equitable access to quality healthcare for every resident of Òdì-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA.
Dr. Jakande further emphasized that partnerships with professional bodies such as AMOHN remain critical to building a resilient healthcare system capable of addressing emerging public health challenges.
The event also featured professional engagements among Medical Officers of Health, who exchanged ideas on improving healthcare service delivery, strengthening preventive healthcare programmes, and advancing innovative approaches to public health management across Lagos State.
