Ejigbo, Lagos–The Executive Chairman of Ejigbo Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Aare Taoheed Adebayo Taiwo (TAT), has announced the maiden edition of the “Glove Up Ejigbo” Boxing Championship, a grassroots sporting initiative designed to discover, nurture, and promote young boxing talents within the community.
The championship, themed “Raising Champions from the Grassroots,” is scheduled to hold on June 18, 2026, at the Ejigbo LCDA Secretariat, where boxing enthusiasts, sports stakeholders, community leaders, and residents are expected to witness thrilling bouts and celebrate emerging talents.
One of the major highlights of the event will be a highly anticipated title clash between Waris Bamidele and Sodiq Ogunshola, a contest expected to showcase the growing depth of boxing talent within the local community.
According to the Council Chairman, the initiative forms part of his administration’s broader commitment to youth empowerment, sports development, and inclusive governance.
He noted that sports remain a powerful tool for engaging young people positively, promoting discipline, and creating pathways for personal and professional growth.
Aare Taiwo emphasized that the championship is not only intended to provide entertainment but also to serve as a platform for identifying promising athletes who can represent Ejigbo and Lagos State at higher levels of competition.
The chairman further reiterated his administration’s determination to invest in programmes that encourage youth participation in productive activities while fostering community unity and development.
