The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has dismissed results of its nationwide primary elections currently circulating on social media, insisting that only the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) has the authority to announce the official outcome of the exercise conducted on May 28 and 29, 2026.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director Esq., the NDC urged members of the public and party supporters to disregard all unofficial results being shared online.
“The general public is hereby urged to disregard the various results circulating on social media as the outcome of the nationwide primaries conducted by the Nigeria Democratic Congress,” the statement read.
The party explained that the authentic results remain in the custody of the NEC and will only be released after due consideration by the party’s leadership.
According to the statement, the NEC is scheduled to meet in Abuja this week following a directive by the National Leader of the NDC, Senator Seriake Dickson.
NEC members have been instructed to arrive in the Federal Capital Territory on Tuesday, June 2, for a pre-NEC meeting ahead of the substantive session fixed for Wednesday, June 3.
“On the order of the National Leader of our party, His Excellency Distinguished Senator Seriake Dickson, a NEC meeting of the party has been called,” the statement added.
The NDC further assured stakeholders that the official list of candidates who will contest elections on the party’s platform would be unveiled after the completion of internal procedures and subsequent submission to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
“The general public and stakeholders will be availed of the results of our primaries when we send the list of candidates to fly our party’s flag to the INEC,” the party stated.
The clarification comes amid growing reactions and speculation surrounding the delay in announcing the results of the primaries.
However, the NDC maintained that only results officially released by its NEC should be regarded as valid and authentic.
