The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Isolo Local Branch, Lagos, has marked this year’s International Children’s Day celebration with a call for the implementation of policies that will create a more inclusive and supportive environment for the growth and development of children.
In a statement issued by the Coordinator of the council, Damilola Kushimo, children were described as precious gifts and the foundation of every society’s future, emphasizing that their welfare, education and protection must remain a priority for governments, institutions and individuals.
Kushimo stated that the celebration serves as a reminder of the collective responsibility to raise children in safe, supportive and inclusive communities where their talents, aspirations and potentials can flourish without barriers.
He urged stakeholders to strengthen efforts towards implementing child-friendly policies, expanding access to quality education, healthcare and social support systems that will equip children to become responsible and productive citizens.
The youth leader also encouraged parents and guardians to continue instilling moral values, discipline and compassion in children, while providing the guidance and support necessary for them to succeed in life.
As part of the celebration, the council reaffirmed its commitment to promoting programmes and initiatives that support youth and child development, inclusion and equal opportunities for all children.
“Every child deserves the opportunity to dream, grow and succeed regardless of background or circumstance. Together, we must continue to build a society where every child feels valued, protected and empowered,” the statement added.
