Governor of Kogi State, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has praised the conduct of the ongoing presidential primaries of the All Progressives Congress, describing the exercise as a reflection of the party’s commitment to transparency, fairness, and internal democracy.
The governor made the statement on Saturday, May 23, shortly after casting his vote at his polling unit in Odenku, Upogoro Ward, Okene Local Government Area of Kogi State, during the APC presidential primaries.
Ododo, who arrived at the venue alongside party supporters and stakeholders, participated in the exercise with other APC members in what he described as a peaceful and credible democratic process.
Addressing journalists after voting, governor commended party members for their impressive turnout and active participation in the exercise, noting that the enthusiasm displayed by members underscored the growing strength and unity within the party.
“I want to sincerely appreciate our party members for coming out in large numbers to participate in this primary election. Their participation shows confidence in the democratic process and commitment to the continued progress of our great party,” he stated.
Governor Ododo further noted that the conduct of the primaries reflected the democratic values consistently promoted by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whom he described as a leader deeply committed to due process and fair competition.
According to him, the President’s willingness to subject himself to the same democratic process as other aspirants demonstrates exemplary leadership and a strong belief in democratic ideals.
“What we are witnessing today across the state is a free, fair, transparent, and credible process. Mr. President has continued to show that democracy thrives when there is openness, participation, and respect for due process,” Ododo said.
He added that President Tinubu’s leadership style has continued to inspire younger politicians and strengthen democratic culture within the APC.
The governor also stressed the importance of sustaining internal democracy within political parties, emphasizing that credible primary elections remain essential to deepening Nigeria’s democratic institutions and ensuring public confidence in the electoral system.
The APC presidential primaries across Kogi State witnessed active participation by delegates and party faithful, while security agencies and electoral officials maintained order and monitored compliance with electoral guidelines throughout the exercise.
