The political atmosphere in Somolu-Bariga came alive on Thursday 14,May 2026, as thousands of enthusiastic members and supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) stormed Shepherd Hill Open Ground, Obanikoro, for the official flag-off campaign of Hon. Abdul Hameed Salawu, popularly known as “Dullar,” ahead of the House of Representatives primary election.
The rally, which attracted a massive crowd of party faithful, grassroots mobilizers, women groups, market leaders, youths, artisans, religious leaders, and community stakeholders, turned into a carnival-like celebration as supporters openly declared unwavering support for the former Somolu Local Government chairman.
Chants of solidarity, songs of victory, and loud cheers filled the venue as APC members from Somolu and Bariga unanimously described Dullar as a tested grassroots politician whose leadership style, accessibility, and commitment to people-oriented governance had continued to earn him admiration across the constituency.

The event further showcased Dullar’s growing political strength and acceptance within Somolu Federal Constituency, with supporters insisting that his experience in local government administration and developmental achievements distinguish him as the most prepared aspirant for the House of Representatives seat.
Addressing the energized crowd during the official campaign flag-off, Hon. Abdul Hameed Salawu “Dullar” said his ambition was inspired by a deep passion to continue serving the people and expand the developmental strides recorded during his tenure as Executive Chairman of Somolu Local Government.

According to him, his administration transformed several communities through road construction, infrastructural renewal, empowerment initiatives, educational support programmes, and youth-focused interventions designed to improve the living conditions of residents.
“I remain proud of what we achieved together as a local government administration. We touched lives through empowerment programmes, community development projects, and people-centered governance.
“Today, I stand before you ready to do more for our people at the federal level through quality representation, effective legislation, and sustainable constituency projects,” he stated.
Salawu went further to assure party members that if elected, he would prioritize youth empowerment, women inclusion, job creation, education support, healthcare interventions, and infrastructural development across Somolu-Bariga.
He also called for peaceful participation during the APC primary election, emphasizing that unity, discipline, and loyalty to the party remained essential for victory.
“This election is not about violence or division; it is about progress, development, and the future of our constituency. I urge all our supporters and APC members to come out peacefully tomorrow and make their voices count,” he added.

Investigator news reports that the campaign rally featured strong endorsements from influential APC leaders and stakeholders who praised Dullar’s leadership qualities, political maturity, and track record in office.
Prominent APC chieftain, Alhaji Olasimbo Bakare, described Dullar as a humble, responsible, and peace-loving leader who had consistently demonstrated loyalty to the APC and commitment to grassroots development.
“Dullar is a man of the people. We all saw the transformation that took place in Somolu during his tenure as chairman. He empowered the youth, supported women, improved infrastructure, and maintained peace within the local government.
We believe he possesses the experience and capacity to represent Somolu Federal Constituency effectively at the National Assembly,” Bakare said.
Also speaking at the rally, Alhaja Ashake Adetutu Alausa praised Salawu for his longstanding support for traders, market women, and residents within the community.
According to her, Dullar had become widely respected in Somolu because of his generosity, accessibility, and willingness to assist people irrespective of political affiliation or social status.
“Before he became chairman, Dullar had already been helping many families and supporting market men and women.
During his administration, he improved roads, upgraded markets, and empowered many residents. He changed the face of Somolu, and we strongly believe he will deliver more dividends of democracy at the federal level,” she stated.

Speaking with investigator news the Arewa Chairman of Somolu Local Government, Malam Salau Yahaya, also commended Salawu for promoting unity and inclusiveness across ethnic and religious lines.
He noted that Dullar’s relationship with different communities within Somolu-Bariga had strengthened peace, cooperation, and political unity in the constituency.
“Hon. Abdul Hameed Salawu is not a tribal leader; he is a leader for everybody. He relates with all groups equally and carries everyone along. Because of his good character and leadership style, the Arewa community is fully ready to support him during the primary election,” Yahaya declared.
Observers at the event described the impressive turnout and level of organization recorded at the rally as a clear indication of Dullar’s growing political momentum ahead of the APC primary.
Many stakeholders expressed optimism that his grassroots connection, governance experience, and popularity among residents would position him strongly for victory at the primary election and beyond.
