The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has approved a waiver of screening requirements for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, effectively clearing him to participate in the party’s forthcoming presidential primaries.
In a statement signed by Felix Morka, National Publicity Secretary of the APC,the decision was reached at the NWC’s 188th meeting held on May 6, 2026, where members resolved to dispense with the standard screening process and deem the President as duly screened in line with the party’s constitution.
According to the NWC, the move was made pursuant to its constitutional powers under Article 13.4 (xiii) and (xiv), which empower the committee to organise and supervise party primaries, and grant waivers in special circumstances in the overall interest of the party.
The committee noted that President Tinubu has continued to enjoy overwhelming support and endorsement from key stakeholders within the APC, including the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), members and leadership of the National Assembly, and other party organs.
It referenced the strong vote of confidence passed during the APC National Summit held on May 22, 2025, as well as similar endorsements at other statutory gatherings.
The NWC further explained that, as the incumbent President and leader of the party, Tinubu had already undergone the required screening ahead of the 2022 presidential primaries.
It therefore considered it unnecessary and redundant to subject him to another round of screening.
